Ministry of Ecology and Environment： Basically understand the three major influencing factors of heavy air pollution.

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, March 11th (Reporter Shen Cheng, Gao Jing) Li Ganjie, Minister of Ecology and Environment, said at the press conference of the Second Session of the 13th National People’s Congress on the 11th that the three major influencing factors of heavy air pollution-pollution discharge, meteorological conditions and regional transmission-have been basically clarified, among which pollution discharge is the main cause and internal cause.

He introduced that the project on the causes and control of heavy air pollution has been set up for about one and a half years and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The project has gathered nearly 2,000 front-line experts from all over the country, and achieved phased results. The causes of heavy air pollution have been basically explained, and will be officially released after the project is completed.

Li Ganjie said that there are three causes and sources of heavy air pollution:

-Pollution discharge is the main cause and internal cause of heavy air pollution. Industry, coal burning, motor vehicles and dust are the four major sources of pollution emissions, accounting for more than 90%. Nitrate, sulfate, ammonium salt and organic matter are the main components of PM2.5, accounting for more than 70%.

The influence of meteorological conditions on heavy air pollution is also very obvious. "The wind speed is less than 2 meters, the humidity is more than 60%, the temperature near the ground is reversed, and the height of the mixed layer is less than 500 meters. This kind of weather is very easy to form heavy polluted weather."

-In terms of regional transmission, taking "2+26" cities as an example, the mutual influence is 20% to 30% on average, and it may reach 35% to 50% when heavily polluted meteorological weather occurs, and it may reach 60% to 70% in individual cities. "The mutual influence is still quite obvious, and joint prevention and control must be implemented." Li Ganjie said.
